2002 Synod Year
Moravian Church Synods are an assembly of church delegates, including clergy and lay people, who are called together for discussion, decision, and policy-making regarding church matters. Church legislation is enacted by these Synods or general business meetings. Each Province has its own Synod every four years. Every seven years a Unity Synod is held in which representatives from all home and mission provinces assemble. These synods often include times of worship and fellowship and serve as a time of reflection and forethought to the future of the church.2002 was one such Synod year. In that year, the Northern and Southern Province held their provincial Synods and the Unity held their Synod as well. The Unity Synod was the monumental in that the Synod was held in the United States. The last time it was held in the United States was 1957. Following are the recounts of those Synods. The next Provincial Synods for the Northern and Southern Province will be held in 2006.
